INTRO
The Three Evils: Greed, Anger, and Ignorance
In the Buddhist Lotus Sutra, greed, anger, and ignorance are considered the three major evils that hinder one's path to true enlightenment. To visually represent these negative emotions, I have personified them in the forms of demons.
-
Greed: Greed is an endless craving, an insatiable desire. In this artwork, I portrayed greed with a parched gaze and a perpetually open mouth, symbolizing its never-ending thirst.
-
Anger: Anger represents rage, hatred, and hostility. In this depiction, I used a contorted face and piercing eyes to represent the power of anger.
-
Ignorance: Delusion stands for unawareness and confusion. In this representation, I employed a bewildered look and a heavy countenance to showcase the struggle in ignorance.
Through the visual imagery of these three demons, I hope to provoke introspection, encouraging individuals to recognize the harm these emotions inflict on the soul and to seek true enlightenment.
